Counting

Counting explores two women who pledge love for each other in 1951. Given the climate and legal realities of the time, they saved pennies with some hope that one day they might be able to be married. Cut to 2015, only one of those women is still alive on the day gay marriage becomes legal in the U.S. While the film celebrates how far same sex couples have come, it also illustrates the sad reality of so many couples that were historically unable to legally declare their relationship status as married. Thus the film represents ongoing gender and social issues while also making a statement about the global need for marriage equality.
