1930, in the highlands of Jalisco. Teenager Emilia silently lives her sexual awakening with her adopted siblings, brother Martín and sister Caro. In search of her freedom, and her biological father, she flees into the bush where she cuts her hair and poses as a young male muleteer (a person responsible for controlling mules) to survive. It is a harsh environment as war is raging, and its difficult to tell good from bad. Complicating the journey, Emilia is unaware that Martín is stalking her. Emilia's path will lead her back to the ranch to defy her destiny and escape with Caro.
