Thongkam and Sek, a gay couple, work tirelessly to build a life together, including a house and durian orchard. Tragedy strikes when Sek dies suddenly, revealing they were never legally married in Thailand, leaving Thongkam with no rights to their assets. The house and orchard now belong to Sek's mother, who moves in with her adopted daughter Mo and gardener Jingna, Mo’s brother. Thongkam must fight to reclaim the fruits of his love and labor. The Paradise of Thorns uses a dark, playful palette and fitting soundtrack to deliver a tragic story, reflecting Thailand's progress in LGBTQ+ rights.

What a fitting name for a film filled with the beauty of the land and culture of Thailand. (Paradise) mixed with the desperation of a grieving family becoming greedy and wreaking havoc on their son's lover (very thorny indeed).
